3 years after their first release on the very sharp CLFT records, argentinian duo project, Dying & Barakat are back on duty with this impressive 4-trackers on Philippe Petit’s Knotweed records. Whereas many argentinian rising figures have chosen the darkest and harshest sonorities to express themselves, Rodrigo Agüero and Yibran Barakat have always felt closer to the grooviest side of the Techno spectrum.
Seems like Argentinian talents have found a warm shelter in the Chamonix-based label as this “Modernismo EP” follows pieces from Gonzalo MD and Julixo. And this EP fits totally with to the artistic vision where Philippe Petit wants drive the label at.
Modernismo, on the A-side, starts with a broken space-filling kick pattern and an acid resonant loop, soon followed by two warm and soulful coats of pads. The perfect recipe for smart and fresh groovy techno.
Sweden-based Bleak has been called for the remix, and it gave birth to a more functional version than the original. A floor-friendly 4/4 techno track, with a focus on drums and that almost alarming synth loop.
On the flip, Desafio will further on A1 groovy path with a nice combination of soulful synth chords and pads, whereas that fatty kick drum will give you enough energy for the whole day!
Regreso ends this powerful trip in the smoothest way, with a subtle after-hourish pad, smart acid loops and that Emmanuel Top’s Spherique kind of drum pattern.
3 ans après leur premier vinyl sur le très pointu CLFT records, le duo argentin Dying & Barakat est de retour avec un excellent EP à venir sur le label de Philippe Petit, Knotweed records. Bien que bon nombre d’artistes de la nouvelle scène argentine soit plutôt branchés par une Techno rude et sombre, Rodrigo Agüero et Yibran Barakat ont toujours été adeptes des sonorités les plus grooves et optimistes du registre.
En tout cas, on sent que les argentins ont trouvé en Knotweed une vitrine confortable pour exposer leurs productions. Ce « Modernismo EP » est ainsi la quatrième sortie de cette provenance, après les Julixo et Gonzalo MD.
Modernismo, sur la face A, commence par un kick volumineux mais surtout à la structure breakée, et une boucle acide qui résonne dans tous les angles. L’ensemble est rapidement recouvert de deux couches de nappes à la profondeur inouïe et qui s’entrelacent sans cesse pendant tout le morceau. La recette parfaite pour faire de la techno groovy et fraîche à la fois.
Le remix de cette perle est confié à l’espagnol basé en suède, Bleak. Il en sort une version beaucoup plus fonctionnelle. De la techno pour dancefloor, avec un joli travail sur les drums et cette boucle de synthé presque alarmiste.
Sur l’autre face, Desafio continue là où s’est arrêté le morceau A1. Du groove dans toutes ses couleurs en somme, où les chords de synthé côtoient des nappes hyper soulful. Et toujours ce kick ultra-volumineux, qui vous met le plein d’énergie pour la journée.
Le dernier track, Regreso, est une espèce de sas de décompression, histoire de redescendre doucement de cette tempête de groove rallongé à la Redbull ! Petite nappe ambiance after, et jeu de boucles fraîchement acidulées… Certaines structures de drum ne sont pas sans nous rappeler le célèbre Spherique de Emmanuel Top.
