Alongside her remarkable contribution to the series, we sat down with BESTE HIRA who shared her thoughts about her career, inspirations & aspirations!
- Hi Beste, we are glad to host you on Paradox. Can you introduce yourself to our readers?
Thank you for having me. I’m a DJ and producer originally from Turkey, now based in Amsterdam. My background is in classical music. I studied piano and cello at conservator before transitioning into techno music.
- What have brought you to the Techno world?
It was a combination of curiosity and inner calling. When I first heard some legends on a club something just clicked. Techno gave me a language to express emotions I couldn’t articulate otherwise. Coming from a classical background, the structure and discipline of techno felt familiar, but it also gave me space to explore chaos.
- How would you describe your current musical universe?
Raw but detailed. I love to build tension and release through long blends, keeping everything fluid, groovy or hypnotic. Emotion is always the anchor for me. It has to feel mysterious kind of a sexy
- You are originally from Turkey, and now based in Amsterdam. Do you think that the weather conditions or life conditions can contribute to this difference of style or the way to produce ?
Definitely. In Turkey, I felt a certain warmth and spontaneity that shaped my emotional sensitivity. Amsterdam, with its moody skies and structured tempo, influenced a colder, more introverted side of my sound. Environment affects mood, and mood affects music. I even have a thesis idea about it. I think that warm tropical climates make room for open air music and more chill/ house music, and that colder geographies can lead to underground music and therefore darker but still space travel-like.
- Amsterdam is for sure a must visit spot in the Techno circuit. Any special venues you would recommend there?
De School if you know, you know(now is Tilla Tec). Also, Bret or Garage Noord for a more intimate vibe. And of course, Radion hold a strong place in the scene with consistently solid programming and family vibe. Other than that there is a lot of club giving space open and inside like Lofi. And of course amazing Raum!
Ps: I enjoy a lot to tho partying or playingin Amsterdam illegal raves places in middle of nowhere with a good company 🙂
- Next week, you will have a special b2b gig with Amotik at Laster. Can you tell us a bit more about this collaboration?
Playing with Amotik is exciting because we both share a deep love for stripped-back, hypnotic techno but approach it from different emotional angles. This will be our first b2b and I’m looking forward to the dynamic we’ll create live it’ll be raw, spontaneous, and full of texture.
- We guess every gig is special, but where was the most exciting connection with the crowd in the last couple of years?
Berghain always has its own charm. For this year’s Awakenings Upclose was truly unforgettable! Playing with Yanamaste to such an intense and close crowd, we felt this electricity and mutual trust. It was as if time had disappeared. One of my unforgettable experiences in the past years was performing my cello at the Berghain Halle in the new year, which took me up a level in what I do because it reflects who I am. It is one of the best things for me that the audience gets to know me more deeply.
- Do you think that there is a positive evolution in female artist’s visibility in the techno scene?
Yes, we’re definitely seeing more representation-but there’s still work to do. Visibility doesn’t always mean equity. I believe we’re moving in the right direction, and what matters most is continuing to support and uplift each other beyond performative gestures.
- What new artists/labels would you recommend to check out at the moment?
I would highly recommend new label that you should check Vault records, Duplicity, Sxxyrec, DIG (Dust in grooves) and my new upcoming label will be always deliver hahah 😉
the artists checking out for new talented as Perfo, Toobris, Benza, Noah Tauber, I-ro and many more talented DJ/producers i would love to count in.
- As a DJ, you must come across loads of promos. What do you think about the current production in the techno circuits? Is there enough sense of creativity or innovation according to you?
There’s a lot of music being released, but not all of it takes risks. I crave tracks that surprise me or stir something visceral. Thankfully, there are still producers digging deep when a promo reflects someone’s inner world rather than just trends, I feel it instantly.
- What are the European clubs or party concepts that you would like to perform at?
Instead of in Europe first of all I’d love to play at Bassiani in Tbilisi, as the energy and political meaning of that space resonates deeply with me! Experiencing something special is mean to me.
- What can we expect from you in the future?
More music definitely. I’m also working on new projects/material not only Techno sound but also in ambient that blends my classical roots with contemporary textures. I also have some exciting collaborations and international dates coming up. The goal is to keep evolving, emotionally and artistically.
Big thanks for the invite and best from Berlin, Mx
