Alongside her remarkable contribution to the series, we sat down with Madwoman who shared her thoughts about her career, inspirations & aspirations!
- Hi Carolina, we are glad to host you on Paradox. Can you introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey there, thanks for the invite.
Gladly, my way of life is to connect people by producing, discovering and sharing music. I’ve been focused on this for the past decade, based in Berlin, going wherever I’m invited to DJ the music I discover and make for others to enjoy. I really just live for connecting people with the power of music.
- What have brought you to the Techno world?
I got the techno bug about twenty years ago. I was always passionate about music, but it really took over when I started going to techno clubs such as Trouw Amsterdam and Berghain a bit more than ten years ago, and decided to dedicate my life to sharing my music in spaces all over the globe. I love the language of techno, as it’s embracing, forgiving and challenging at the same time, which is very stimulating.
- How would you describe your current musical universe?
Interesting question. I’ve always been attracted to the darker side of techno but as every artist evolves, I’ve also embraced the more universal side of sound, always keeping my core madwoman signature and energy present. madwoman’s musical universe gives my listeners a great sense of empowerment and emotional release, both for mind and body.
- In last summer, you had 5 gigs in US but it seems like it’s not your first time there ? How was your first experience there?
Absolutely amazing, I am very excited to see the underground techno scene expanding in the United States. My first time playing was at Basement in New York and it was sweaty and full of great energy. Last year I played shows in Phoenix, New York, Boston, Los Angeles and Atlanta and the curation and crowds were fire in each city! I can’t wait to come back to play more in the US.
- We guess every gig is special, but where was the most exciting connection with the crowd in the last couple of years?
Definitely my show in Havana, Cuba in 2019, I will remember this show forever. The people, the energy and the intensity in this hot and sweaty old brick stone factory somewhere in Havana was very, very special to me.
- As a DJ, you must come across loads of promos. What do you think about the current production in the techno circuits? Is there enough sense of creativity or innovation according to you?
For sure, I think there are a lot of interesting tracks and producers out there, you just have to know where to look. I get a lot of promos as well which I gladly always listen to, I feel like there is a lot of good stuff out there right now.
- How did you record the podcast for Paradox ? Can you pick a record from the mix and tell us why you like it or how you found it ?
I recorded the podcast with the Model 1 mixer because I’m really into how it works. It gives more options on how to open up, eq and use the sounds of the tracks, which is perfect for layering. I recorded it while using 3 decks, where I often leave one layer or element of a track on for many transitions.
One track that I particularly love playing right now is from Tapefeed – Analog Monkey, because I love the gradual intensity of the track. I actually found it randomly while I was on Instagram, the duo had a snippet of the track on one of their pictures, so I got curious and looked it up on Bandcamp, a happy coincidence! Now I basically include it in all of my DJ performances as well, a great track.
- What are the European clubs or party concepts that you would like to perform at?
I am super intrigued about Asia! I will have a few shows there later this year, which I am ecstatic about. I also definitely would like to play more in Spain, I love the energy there and I want to explore this country a lot more. Then of course the Awakenings festival in Amsterdam, which I visited as a raver 10 years ago. I am very much into crazy and unusual venues, so basically very excited to keep exploring venues with crazy sound systems like that.
- What can we expect from you in the future?
You will see 😉
Thanks a lot Carolina, we hope to see you very soon somewhere, keep the good vibe on!
Love and respect
